LUMIX S9 35mm Photo Film Emulations - CineRoad & Thunderbird
Panasonic just revolutionized the way film emulations work for stills photography in camera.
I made SEVEN film emulations that you can import straight to your phone and then directly into your camera. After importing, you can make all of your own adjustments to the profiles. From adding grain to tweaking the WB and TINT to your own taste!
The CineRoad Emulations are based of VLog. They were crafted off more of a Motion Picture Film type look. Then THUNDERBIRD was made fresh while in Japan. Thunderbird chases more of a nostaglic 35mm photo film type look. Lets break them down some more by each profile.
CineRoad 200D
A daylight based film with a very warm saturated print type look.
CineRoad 1600D
Based off CineRoad 200D, but we pushed this to the max. Imagine shoot 400 speed film at 1600 and pushing the film in development. That’s the look I was going for while creating a flatter look.
CineRoad 800T
A tungsten based film stock for creating a cooler moodier feel. Can either use this indoors or outdoors, up to your own creative freedoms.
THUNDERBIRD 160N
This was the base of all the film stocks. I went for a more neutral tone while still baking in that filmic contrast and creamy tones. I like to under expose this one to get a more matte look!
THUNDERBIRD 400
This is the golden point of my film emulations. I pursued my real film workflow. Kodak Portra over exposed by 1 stop, scanned through a Fuji Frontier film scanner with the exposure brought down for a deeper more satin feel.
THUNDERBIRD 800
This takes 400 to the next level. As if we underexposed our film and pushed it in development to get those more crunchy shadows.
THUNDERBIRD 1600
Personally, the film emulation I use the most. For this I chased those happy accidents we often have when shooting with film. Where it’s far from perfect, but reminds us why we love to shoot with film.
